A couple of weeks ago, Scott (aka B.I.L. -bro.in.law), Bert and I flew home to go on our family vacation. The fun started out with a give-in---a DodgErS game! It was fun to sit and gorge ourselves on Dodger dogs, chocolate malts, nachos, peanuts, and so much more.
The next day we packed up and got on the road.
Destination: Gma and Gpa Cawley's house in Carson City, Nevada.
ETA: 7 hours. Yikes.
The Cawley family is filled with a bunch of whiners (me especially-to be honest I'm propbably the instigator). I hate car trips. A car ride to San Diego is do-able, or IF to SLC, but 7 hours is just too much. Thankfully, we stopped plenty of times for me to gain some sanity...and eat. Scott had Carl's Jr. for the first time, we stopped at Schat's Bakery...soooo yummy....where we got breads, chocloates, danishes and caramel apples, etc.
Once we got to Gma and Gpa Cawley's I was delivered a major blow.
All of the thick, plush, swirly, orange-y, 70's carpet was gone! GONE!!!
I had been so excited to show Scott my favorite memory of that house. Oh well. Hardwood floors are a little more sleek I guess, but it wasn't the same.
The next day we went to Virginia City. It's a tourist trap, but fun nonetheless. It's an old mining/cowboy town thats been made into a little tourist attraction. We rode the train, took some old-fashioned pictures (I was a saloon girl...hubba hubba), saw a pretty lame-o but entertaining short play, took a tour of a mine, shopped, ate ice cream and sported some pretty hott 'staches. Scroll down and you'll see what I'm talking about.
We floated down the Truckee River in Tahoe one day, which was SOO fun.
I don't have any pictures because we were obviously on the river and in some major water fights. I think my dad was fulfilling some childhood dream of being a pirate, because he was all about sabotaging other rafts and doing sneak attacks. We stopped for lunch on the bank and sunk our teeth into some frozen fried chicken that my gma packed. The chicken was so frozen we had to scrape off some meat with our two front teeth. Ah, memories.
Another day, we went horseback riding in Tahoe. The views were gorgeous! I'm not a real animal lover but Smokey was a good horse and behaved himself apart from some binge eating every 15 minutes.
Our last night in Carson City, Gma and Gpa took us out to eat. Interesting night topped off with an even more interesting game of International.
Back home in Valencia, our whole family got together at Gma Trudy and Gpa Gary's. We swam, ate pizza and brownies, talked, and it was just wonderful. I love all my little cousins and their happy, smiling faces. Timmy was my little shadow that night and I was lovin it. I think I was having too much fun to take pictures.
Saturday night we went to see Fiddler on the Roof at the Pantages. I love the movie. I used to dress up like Yenta when I was little and reenact the "Matchmaker, Matchmaker" scene for my family. The play was awesome because it featured Topol, the same guy that played Tevye in the movie. I think the program said he was now 79 years old. wow.
It was a nice finale to the trip.
Finally...
I was able to see Brittney! I am so excited that they have moved back to Valencia. Maybe now I can see her more often, and those adorable kids of hers! I honestly wanted to take Braden home with me.
Thanks Mom and Dad for another wonderful trip! You truly invest in our family and your love, kindness, support and examples have made us a closer and more loving family.
