grand ol' grand ole opry

yes. it was indeed grand. and so stinkin hot in there i had to take off my uggs and take a breather while licking up some strawberry gelato. no one told me it was an indoor excursion, so i was dressed like an eskimo, all prepared for the cold weather that lurked outside. but despite almost freaking out over my core temperature while holding a little 19 pound furnace, it was fun. gorgeous. tons of lights. zebras hanging from the ceilings holding umbrellas. and nothing gets you into the holiday spirit like a Christmas zebra.

we drove to the Grand Ole Opry Hotel after seeing elder cawley! (see previous post.) so our spirits were already high. man we love that kid! since it was a tuesday, the place was pretty much deserted. we walked around the front entrance, seeing the lights, the live nativity, and horse-drawn carriages. then inside we went. i love hotels. i wish i could live in a hotel (a very nice one) for the rest of my days like Eloise. an eternal vacation.

many people suggested we go to the grand ole opry and i thank you all. wow is it big in there. indoor rivers, waterfalls, shops, gazebos, and poinsettias everywhere. two million Christmas lights adorn the place and there had to be equally as many poinsettias--real ones, i checked.

tangent: i love poinsettias. and when they lose their red color or christmas ends, do not throw them out. if you have a green thumb like my grandma they become the most awesome looking houseplant. i tried once, but unfortunately, my thumb is akin to the black plague. here's hoping this year finds my poinsettia happy and long-living.

Santa was alive and well and visiting the hotel also. we had Jacob take pictures with him and i braced myself for the moment he actually noticed who was holding him. Jacob looked up, saw him, looked at the photographer, looked at Santa's shiny belt buckle, and nothing. not a peep. it was a Christmas miracle! my kid is so brave. and just plain cute.

having him here on earth with us makes Christmas a million times more magical. he lights up our lives!

I love all of your pictures of the lights! It really is amazing. When we were there it was the middle of summer, but they told us they start putting up lights in August and it takes all the way until thanksgiving. And then it takes until April to take them down. After seeing your pictures I can totally see why!

P.S. This is from Mallory, although I am pretty sure it is signed in under Brockton's account. Just ignore that. haha
