Father's Day Cont.

I found a few pictures of me and my dad and thought they were funny...I'm such a ham in most of them...here are the cutest and least embarassing ones:

And here is a couple of Scott (he is such a cute, little nerd. haha) and his dad, Robert:

And...I couldn't resist putting this one in. Wasn't he adorable! I cannot wait to have kids.

Tuesdays Tell All: Smell

So many smells...so little time. The Cawley nose is very perceptive. We've been blessed with superb smell detective shnozzes. (sp?)

One time my family was out to eat at Outback. We were laughing and having a good time, when all of sudden this stench just permeated our noses. Every one of us, at the same time, said, "What is that Smell!" No one else in the restaurant was disgusted...what was the smell! We couldn't figure out why no one else was reacting. Five minutes later a waitress walks out of the back and hands this stinky soup to a person near our table. It was the soup. Wow. It was stinky. We smelled it all the way from the front of the restaurant while it was being cooked.

Needless to say, my nose is very sensitive and its been passed to me from my dad. My dad smells everything. If he gets a cup down from the cupboard, he smells it first. haha. It drives my mom crazy. But I've found myself doing it too. (I don't think Scott notices.)

Enough of bad smells. Here are some smells that I LOVE:

1. Blueberry Muffins (with half a pound of butter on each half, warmed up): I have been obsessed with them lately, in fact I'm eating one right now, and it smells gooood.
2. Babies: They just smell heavenly. I think it's the baby lotion.
3. Scott: I love how he smells. He was away for a couple of nights two weeks ago and I missed him so much, I sprayed his cologne on my pillow. (I'm pathetic I know.)

4. Fresh, buttery corn with lots of salt: At the Idaho State Fair (woohoo) they have the best corn in the world. They soak it in a big vat of butter. mmmmm. The smell wafts all around the fair.

5. Flowers: I love gardens. We have a ficus tree named Micus. Micus the Ficus. (Scott named him can you tell?) Some people have a pet, we have a tree. Flowers and plants just make everything smell fresh and summery. I can't wait until I have my own garden and I can pick fresh flowers every day.

6. Fresh Laundry: I especially love the smell of fresh sheets. I think I should go on one of those Febreeze commercials where people go crazy smelling things. I could definitely play the part.

(Don't you wish that laundry really got fresh this way? Blowing in a meadow surrounded by blossoms? Maybe in the celestial kingdom.)

7. The Beach: Oh how I miss it. I can't even explain it. It's wonderful.

There are so many more smells, but I don't have the time. Happy "Smelling" everyone!

Happy Father's Day Dad!

I have the most wonderful father. He always taught me to do what is right. Some of my memories of my father are: walking in the grocery store singing Wizard of Oz, humming the Batman song and skidding out at his company's huge garage, take your daughter to work days and eating the m&ms in his office, watching him do home improvements on the weekend, going camping and on vacations, going to Preston and taking the Napoleon Dynamite tour, going to movies and out to eat, saying movie lines, stopping at every churro cart at Disneyland, etc. etc. I always have fun with dad. He is my hero. He is outgoing and funny and a friend to all he meets. He always makes sure that he tells his wife and children that he loves them. He has been the greatest example that I could have ever asked for. I am so proud to have such a wonderful dad and grateful for the legacy that he passes down. I love you dad. Happy Father's Day!

Go Lakers! Game 3, Tonight, 7 pm

Tuesdays Tell All: Sound

I'm not crazy about this week's topic, but I guess I'll list some sounds I enjoy:
  • The whooshing of fans. I can only sleep if there is a fan going. (It drowns out Scott's snoring.)
  • A washing machine.
  • The telephone ring on 24.
  • Scott's laugh and giggle.
  • My cousin Clara's raspy, nose in the air, adorable voice.

Enough of that...

Let me tell you, this week has been so crazy and hectic. I have so much due in my classes. I'm starting to freak out that the semester is rapidly coming to an end because I have so much to do. It doesn't help either that I also work, volunteer at I-Comm and am planning our Relief Society's big semester enrichment. Ahh! But don't worry. I'm making room for the priorities in my life. Like watching the Lakers vs. Celtics game tonight at 7pm.

I really hope they win and I can rub it in every Utah Jazz fan's face.

Scott and I went and saw the new Indiana Jones movie last night. One word: ridiculous. I mean it was entertaining, but come on.

Scott recently started a new job for the summer while he's off-track. He is a manager for a house painting company here in Rexburg. Yesterday, he came home filthy! He had paint and stain all over him. (He was kind of hott, in a rugged and unkept way.) He is definitely going to get a nice, dark farmer's tan working outside every day. My husband is such a hard-worker and I am so grateful for him.

I promise that pictures will be added soon. Presently, I cannot find the camera cord to connect to the laptop. We have so many pictures to share and I'm excited to get them up.

Go Lakers! (and especially you Kobe!)

Tuesdays Tell All: Sight

A sister in my ward, Meme Dalling, just recently lost her baby. She was about 5 months along and went into early labor. He lived for about two hours. But for those precious moments she and her husband were able to hold him and look at him. He held her finger and they were able to get a picture together as a family in the hospital room.

There was a picture at his graveside service. (I don;t have a copy sadly.) My relief society president, Jelinda, said that it was the most beautiful picture she had ever seen. The Dallings were holding him up between them and staring at him. The baby was illuminated by the bright, white lights in the hospital room.

What a comfort this picture must be to the Dallings. They have little to remember him by except for this picture that captured the love and despair that must have engulfed the Dallings. What a blessing this picture will be for them throughout the rest of their lives.

I didn't mean to make this entry sad but trials like these really make you count your blessings. That picture was a tender mercy from the Lord.

I know I see the tender mercies of the Lord daily in my life, but I rarely acknowldege them. This is my goal for the next week: to recognize and see the Lord's hand in my life.
