Vote Yes on Prop 8

We are living in tumultuous times. I have been thinking about Prop 8 all day and realizing that it is definitely a sign of the times-- of the last days. I only wish that I still lived in California and were able to hold signs, go door to door and rally for support as so many wonderful people are doing right now-Mormon and not.

My mom sent me an email last night after my family had joined our stake in holding signs at a busy intersection in our hometown of Valencia. I include it here:

Hello—We all were out holding signs on the corner by the mall. At times it got a little ruff. The other side was shouting HATERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOOK AT WHAT YOU ARE TEACHING YOUR KIDS!!!! We were flipped off a lot and yelled at—but through it all we had a good feeling because we are standing up for what we believe in. We had a lot of horn honks in support. Who knows- I guess we will find out tomorrow. We held signs from 4-6:30 pm. I wish you could have been here—words cannot describe. There were probably about 300 people for and 75 against (around there). We are truly being attacked and the other side is disrespectful, rude and vicious. Take a look at this new ad that is hitting the tv tomorrow—Unbelievable!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is only going to get worse—We have to be strong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love you so much- We truly have a wonderful family!! Love MOM

She also sent me a link of the newest "No on Prop 8" ad. It shows Mormon missionaries "taking away the rights" of a defenseless lesbian couple. Please. Give me a break.

Prop 8 will ensure that we maintain religious freedom and the rights as parents to teach our children what we know is right, and not have them force fed propaganda over the defenselessness of same-sex couples and their struggles over persecution from "the Haters."

I am not a "hater." I do not hate gay people. But I do value religious and parental freedom and rights. They think their rights will be taken away. But what about my rights?

I hope and pray that Prop 8 passes. I hope and pray that I won't have to send my children to a school that promotes gay and lesbian lifestyles. I won't. I wouldn't subject my children to the brainwashing that is sure to ensue if Prop 8 fails. But where would I go? If Prop 8 fails in California, it will fail in other states. It will be a destructive donimo effect that will infiltrate every school and take away the rights of every church.

That is why the Church and our prophet and leaders have been praying and fasting for California and its members and citizens.

I have struggled the past few days with fellow members who have said, "It is a California problem." "It won't really affect us." "Not a big deal." "Why should I donate money?"

It is a National Problem. Not a California Problem. It is a Church-wide problem. Not a California Problem. If Prop 8 fails, it will spread. The consequences may not be immediate, but they will surely come. Little by little it will escalate and strengthen.

Vote YES on Prop 8. Fast and pray that it will pass.

I know that this is a time of trial. So many California members have willingly taken on the armor of God and stood courageously for what they know to be true. My family has been yelled at, flipped off, harassed, stolen from and by people who call them the Haters.

I am grateful for strong members of the church and individuals throughout California who follow the prophet and rise to the occasion.

I am grateful for a family who has raised me in righteousness and continually set an example of valiance.

I know that "The family is ordained of God. Marriage between man and woman is essential to His eternal plan. Children are entitled to birth within the bonds of matrimony, and to be reared by a father and a mother who honor marital vows with complete fidelity" (The Family: A Proclamation to the World).

I hope that we all may prepared for the times ahead and have joy in the scriptures and our prophet. We will not be led astray as long as we adhere and follow the guidance of our Heavenly Father.

Don't support the corporations that don't support traditional marriage. The opponents to prop 8 will be trying again to redefine marriage. Apple, Google and McDonald's all supported no on 8. It's time to ditch the iPods, not use google and not eat McDonald's.

BTW blogger is part of google, so delete the blog, follow the prophet, support traditional marriage (even though our eternal belief is that marriage is one man and one, or more, women) and spread the word to friends & family.
