jacob is blessed -- 12.4.2011
Our little Jacob is now a blessed babe. Scott blessed him in my home ward, Stevenson Ranch. It was absolutely wonderful to watch as Scott took Jacob up to the stand, dressed in white, and the men that I love most surrounded him. Scott gave a beautiful blessing. And my heart grew a bit bigger for him as he uttered those sweet words of advice and blessing to our baby.
Jacob--being 5 months old--did not lay down quietly like a newborn typically does. He was up and looking around and was very jolly as he was bounced in the circle, his hat securely tied under his chubby cheeks and chin. Towards the end, he lost a little patience. But was overall, a perfect baby.
When the blessing ended, Scott raised him high above his head like "The Lion King". And the ward got a good look at his round, pot-belly, since Scott accidentally raised his shirt as well. It was cute. Funny. A good, happy memory.
Sitting there in the church, my family occupying a few rows, my mom squeezing my hand, I missed them all like crazy. We are so fortunate to have them and so grateful for all they do for us. I had to focus on not worrying about leaving them again.
My cousin Camille, sister Caroline, and dad didn't make it easy for me though when they all got up and bore their testimonies. Love them so. Thank heavens I bore mine before Camille's. Her sweet words would have made it impossible for me to utter a single word if I had gone after her. And Caroline was such an example of missionary efforts and courage. She invited a non-member friend to church, then got up and bore her testimony for her and explained the happiness she felt having her at church. And of course my dad is always awesome. A power-house of knowledge and conviction and faith. Jacob has so many relatives to look up to. And that is the greatest blessing I could wish for my little son.
After a hectic picture-taking session, my family headed to my parent's house for dinner (technically linner). And the scene that follows is the quintessential image that will always stay in my memory when I think of Sunday family dinners. Kids running around, some crying, some laughing, the island overflowing with good food, tables filled with family and friends talking the night away, buttermilk brownie smashed all over the floor, hugs galore. To me, the perfect Sunday.
It was a perfect day. I have a perfect-for-me husband who I love. I have a perfectly adorable son. The church is perfect. And I am so grateful to constantly be purified and perfected by it. It's a wonderful life!
In the Circle:
Scott Garrison, Robert Garrison, Martin Cawley, Mike Cawley, Gary Larkins, Donald Riddle, Ron Masino, Brad Larkins.
Thank you to all who came! And thank you to all that came in spirit!
