A Thing of Beauty is a Joy Forever
A thing of beauty is a joy for ever:
Its loveliness increases; it will never
Pass into nothingness; but still will keep
A bower quiet for us, and a sleep
Full of sweet dreams, and health, and quiet breathing.
--John Keats
Heidi Larkins Cawley. A thing of Beauty. That's my mom. Golden haired. Passionate. Loving. Giving. Mine.
But I've been pondering: Why are we so close? What binds us to each other out of want and love and not just because of the "she brought me into this world and gave me life" cliche? Our relationship is elevated beyond that because we're not simply bound by biological ties. Our spirits are knit together. We are Kindred Spirits. How did Heavenly Father know that I needed her? How did He know she should be my mother?
Because we are the same. We look alike and sound alike. And we react alike and think alike and talk alike and maybe even get angry alike. Most importantly, our spirits are alike. I'm certain that when Heavenly Father began to form our families I already knew my mother and clung to her with all I could muster because I loved her even then and needed her to stay with me. Truly she is my sister in spirit and now mother in flesh. She cares for our family tirelessly. She makes our house a home and fills it with warmth, love, good food, the gospel, laughter and silliness. She relates to each of her children individually with support, comfort, and understanding. She grows lovelier by the day because I learn to appreciate her more each day.
She knows my heart, my moods, my worries, my struggles, my foibles, my virtues and strengths, my needs, my thoughts, my joys. She knows everything about me because she's served me in all things all my life. It is true Christ-like love that only a Mother can attain. She is MY everything. The only Mother that could feed my soul and my spirit. The one that I still cling to and love all the more.
