Great Grandma Getty 6/11/1911--2/21/2008

On February 21, 2008, my great grandma Ella Getty passed away. She was the same age as President Hinckley. I was grateful that in the months before she passed I was able to visit her in Utah every so often. I will always remember her little laugh that went "Hoo hoo hoo." :); how she would pick up a picture of her and her siblings and name every one of them really fast in order, I still can only remember the first and the last: Mony......................Dorothy.

She was always a wonderful cook and gardener. I remember only glimpses of being at her house when I was young, but I will always remember her garden. At the funeral, many stories were told of her and her garden. One of my favorites that I heard was she would tell her grandkids to catch all the grasshoppers and rip their heads off so they couldn't get her flowers. haha. What an image.

Grandma Getty is my Grandma Trudy's mother. Grandma Trudy has many memories and stories to tell about holding the chickens while her mother chopped the heads off, or her mother's famous pickles and cheese. In the few days before she passed, Grandma Trudy said that Grandma Getty would raise her hand in the air like she was drinking something. When they asked her what she was doing, she said she was trying to get the last drop of buttermilk. :)

The funeral was very beautiful and filled with flowers, family and friends. It was nice to see our relatives again and be with my Grandma Trudy and support her. I will always be grateful for her legacy.

The obituary can be accessed here.
